Many know our city for its waterfront views and rich history — but Yonkers also quietly stars in Hollywood films. Here are three familiar titles you might not have realized include our streets, mansions and churches.
1. A Beautiful Mind (2001)The stately mansion on North Broadway, known as Alder Manor (W. B. Thompson Mansion), served as the location for a key sequence in the film. Walking past its stone façade, you could be stepping into a scene from Russell Crowe’s quest for truth.
2. The Irishman (2019)At 670 Yonkers Ave, the Neo-Gothic church of St. John the Baptist hosted the wedding scene of Bill Bufalino’s daughter in Martin Scorsese’s epic. Next time you drive by, imagine a film crew rolling ‘action’.
3. Catch Me If You Can (2002)A lesser-known but fun fact: the street of Buena Vista Avenue (between St. Mary & Prospect) in Yonkers was used for the film’s “smaller apartment” setup. That quiet block got a moment in cinema history.
The next time you walk through Yonkers, keep an eye out: your city is more than backdrop—it’s part of film history.
